This qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.
The Diploma
This two year part-time qualification gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context in both health care and non-medical settings. Successful completion of this course means you will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service – initially within the context of an agency’s service framework but later (with experience and support from the supervisor, or by completing PC-L5 or its equivalent) may progress to independent practice.
This qualification could lead to employment or increase employ-ability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, other helping roles.

This qualification is for candidates who want to work as a counsellor in an agency setting. You will learn how to apply counselling theory to the therapeutic counselling process, focussing mainly on the person-centred approach. You will volunteer to work in an agency as a trainee counsellor. You will further your counselling skills and knowledge to ensure that you are able to work safely and effectively as a reflective practitioner within an agency setting.

Progression
Successful learners may progress onto: Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills & Theory, Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision, Open University Foundation Degree in Counselling.
Entry Requirements
You must have obtained both our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and our Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, or their equivalent.

The minimum age is 19 years old.
